I am not sure if this northern slimy salamander was keeping still to avoid attracting attention
or because it had given up the ghost.
My herp-savvy sources report that this critter's secretions under threat are actually sticky, not slimy.
Suitably illuminated, the specks can iridesce; my subject offered no such spectacle.
