Orient: Park-and-Ride lot is on southbound side of US-220 at terminus of VA-816 [Tinker Mountain Road], about 0.5 miles northwest of I-81 exit 150B. Lot is 0.2 miles south of where AT crosses US-220.

Park: Large lot shared with commuters; no gate, no fee.

Connect: Short path from northwest corner of lot connects to AT in 0.2 mi.

Mp 10.0/15.7: via Andy Layne Trail

Orient: From I-81 exit 150B for US-220 N: follow US-220 N for 1.4 mi to left onto VA-779. VA-779 for 8.4 mi to left into lot, about 0.3 miles north of VA-600.

Park: Ample lot on the east side of VA-779 [Catawba Road]; signed for Andy Layne Trail.

Connect: Follow Andy Lane Trail for 2.9 miles to AT at Scorched Earth Gap {37.44016, -79.9953}.

Mp 19.8/5.9: VA 311 [Catawba Valley Drive]

Orient: From I-81 exit 140 for VA-311 N: follow VA-311 N for 6.0 mi to left into lot, via turning lane, at crest of hill.

Park: Large lot, signed. (Portable toilets in 2016.)

Mp 25.7/0.0: VA-624 [Newport Road]

Locate: {37.37151, -80.14969} 🄱 🄶 🄾 2016

Orient: From I-81 exit 140 for VA-311 N [Catawba Valley Drive]: follow VA-311 N for 9 mi to left onto VA-624; follow VA-624 for 0.3 mi to trail crossing; parking pull-offs to left.

Park: Room for 2-3 cars on east side of road.

Mp 25.7/0.0: via Scout Trail

Locate: {37.37964, -80.15589} 🄱 🄶 🄾 2016

Orient: From I-81 exit 140 for VA-311 N [Catawba Valley Drive]: follow VA-311 N for 9.4 mi to left into parking lot. Lot is on the west side of VA-311 about 0.4 miles north of VA-624.

Park: Large USFS lot on west side of road; signed for Appalachian Trail and Dragon's Tooth Trail. Trees hide lot from road; look for unassuming gravel driveway with USFS sign. Privy.

Connect: Follow Scout Trail (yellow blazes) for 0.5 mi to AT. Then turn left for AT northbound or right for AT southbound.
